About Pricing:

There's more to pricing than just numbers.

For over 30 yrs now we have rigidly selected for breed type and mentality of the old style Aussies. Breed type includes not only the traits that make an Aussie look like an Aussie, but the moderate bone and substance, perfection of movement and the unusual agility that allows these dogs to be able to physically perform nearly anything possible for a canine athlete. Mentality and breed function are what first brought the Aussie type to popularity with early ranchers, herders and farmers. The mental traits of keen intelligence, high trainability, strong working instinct, willingness to please — i.e. strong work ethic — were coupled with necessary moderation and athleticism, which enabled them to carry out the jobs that needed doing, whether it was driving cattle, fetching sheep, killing varmints, protecting the homestead or warming a bed and being a true companion.

This was a true "survival of the fittest" background, which maintained the outstanding genetic soundness the breed was originally blessed with. We have worked diligently to maintain and, if possible, improve upon the genetic soundness of the dogs that our line is based on and continually derived from. Along with breed type and mentality, genetic integrity is equally important, as there is nothing more heart breaking than a loved companion, top winning show dog, or supreme performance dog with debilitating defects. Breed type and soundness are equally important. Top show ring quality is wonderful to achieve, but unfortunately what wins in the show ring does not always mean functional soundness and may be governed by fads - i.e. markings, shades of color, etc.

Because we have started with dogs strongly endowed with all of the aforementioned traits and have continued to select for those same qualities, our companion quality puppies, although not blessed with show ring perfection, are functionally very sound. Many of these have an outstanding balance of herding ability, power and stock savvy, making them top working prospects and breeding prospects for those emphasizing working and performance.

Our breeding/performance prospects will exhibit conformation that is closer to perfection as well as having the mentality necessary for a good performance dog- mainly confidence, as they already have various amounts of the mental qualities we emphasize.

Our top show prospects exhibit excellent breed type, style, and conformation resulting in beautiful movement, along with confidence, and with the breeding behind these puppies, they have the potential to excel in all venues.

Because of the proven versatility of this bloodline, and the stated explanations, a pick of the litter is not really possible. We are very proud of this fact.

More Information:

Fairoaks dogs are in homes, on farms and ranches and in breeding programs all across the country.  We have dogs in all mainland states, Canada, Germany, Sweden, Australia and England.

Working Aussies are active, but should not be hyper.  A Fairoaks puppy, needs obedience training and general guidance as he grows.  You can not simply let the puppy run wild and hope to end up with a superior companion.  Fairoaks dogs are highly intelligent and will set their own boundaries, which you may or may not agree with.  Molding the pup is not difficult or even particularly time-consuming, but if you do not want to do this then our dogs are not for you.

Many people think that because they are working dogs that they must have thousands of acres to run, but this is not the case at all.  We have many puppies/dogs in cities and apartments.  As long as you give the dog a physical outlet they are content to be with you no matter where.

There are many good dogs in the breed.  What sets our dogs apart is that the individuals carrying the Fairoaks line into the 21st century and beyond will carry behind them over 38 years (as of 2004) of experience, selection and knowledge in a direct line of decent from the very roots of the breed.  They have been chosen generation after generation with only our ideal in mind.  We know our dogs, and have for generations.

What sets the old-fashioned Aussie apart was his unique and wonderful mind, physical and mental soundness, characteristics that we have demanded since 1966.

I have tried to be as in depth as I could, to give you as much information as possible. If you like what you have read, contact us. We'll do our best to get you a puppy that will give you years of enjoyment.
